History: Rushing Root River gave life to the small town of Lanesboro, where the community harnessed the power of this important water source.

Whalan

Identity: "This Town Is So Small"

Attractions:  "Root River Bike Trail" Runs Right

                         Down the Center of Town

                        "Standstill Parade"

History: Began with a population of 156 people. The town was established in 1868 on land donated by John Whaalahan. After removing a few letters, the town took the moniker of Whalan.

 

Peterson

History: Founded as a railroad village in 1867. Before the arrival of railroads, the river was used for travel.   

 

 

 

Rushford

History: From 1872 to 1939, the Rushford Wagon and Carriage Co. manufactured the Rushford Wagon, a sturdy and functional farm wagon used throughout Minnesota and the Upper Midwest.
